Creative projects are one of my favorite “indulgences” within a data-centric workday. I enjoy creating branding and marketing materials that not only fit the objectives of a campaign, but inspire and captivate. Below are some highlights from recent projects, feel free to explore.
Interactive Web Management Capstone Project – Green Social Guidebook
As a part of my undergraduate senior capstone class, I was required to choose a project that drew on the learning outcomes of the major. As I was doing my honors thesis project on the connection between social media, sustainability and behavior change, I decided to create an e-book that summarized the study and gave practical application points to non-profit marketers. The e-book is published on Issuu and is based on a combination of original and secondary research. The project allowed me to exercise and refine my graphic design skills, while also giving me the opportunity to research and experiment with how to best communicate complex information to the target audience.
Sustainable World Coalition – Contest Media
For SWC, I was asked to launch a contest on our social media platforms for followers to win a free copy of the Sustainable World Sourcebook. Followers were encouraged to Tweet why they’d like a Sustainable World Sourcebook and the winner was picked randomly. As part of this campaign, I created an informational digital flyer informing participants of the contest.
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Business – Career Conference Re-branding
One of my all-time favorite projects was the re-branding the UW Oshkosh College of Business networking event, held annually in late September. Previously called “Networking Night,” we changed the event to “College to Career Conference” which better encompassed the variety of professional development opportunities and activities offered. I created a new logo, postcards, flyers, social media marketing content, promotional emails and more in preparation.
Below are examples of digital and print materials designed and created by me for the event:
University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Business – Social Media Graphics
Making simple, fun graphics to accompany social media content is great way to practice design skills on a small scale. While my strategy depends on the brand and message, I tend to gravitate towards imagery that is modern, clean and concise. Below are examples of social media graphics I’ve created with a variety of applications, primarily Canva:
- C2C Checklist
- Titan Jobs Conference Registration
- Teddy Roosevelt Inspiration
- Fall 2015 Day One
- Are You Job Ready?
- Professional Development
- Welcome Back Day
University of Wisconsin College of Business – Machu Picchu Digital Flyers
The Machu Picchu Digital Flyers were created as a project at my marketing internship for the College of Business. The objective was to encourage more student interest and participation for the interim trip. These digital flyers needed to be information-heavy, and outlined the application requirements to be considered and accepted on the trip. For this project, I had to sort through a lot of step-by-step directions and find ways to better communicate the information to students so they could follow along digitally as they submitted their application.
College of Business Major Fact Sheets
The Major Fact Sheets project for the College of Business was a lengthy project that included reducing down lots of important information about the college’s offerings in order to produce quick, at-a-glance sheets to distribute to students interested in business, but unsure of which major to choose. As the marketing intern, my objective was to create promotional materials that displayed each major favorably and accurately, while also addressing key points of interest for the audience.
Independent Playwright Richard Kalinoski – My Soldiers Staten Island Debut
For several years I worked as a personal assistant and representative for a world-renowned playwright, Richard Kalinoski. While most of my projects involved working with hundreds of artistic directors across the United States, I also was able to dip my toes in creating promotional materials for print. Check out some of the examples below of pieces I created for Mr. Kalinoski’s Staten Island Debut for My Soldiers:
